WE - ME UNDERWATER MOVIE
Can We Dance with the Invisible?
From the silence underwater, the flow gently guides a woman through a dance between the visible and the invisible, between life and death. A woman and her double. Can we dance with the invisible?
The WE-ME Underwater movie is the first creation of a trilogy entitled Trilogy of the Invisible, from international multi-artist Nina Vogel. It’s a co- production between Brazil and Canada for the making of a very innovative piece, a short underwater film of contemporary puppet theatre and contemporary dance.
The water is the essential element of life in our planet. It constitutes most part of the human bodies in the same proportion as it constitutes the Earth. It cradles us from our mother’s wombs before birth and continues to do it throughout life. It animates us. The water, in different religious, symbolizes life and the unconscious. For some cultures, represents the feminine, since the waters of our planet are directed influenced by the moon. For Indigenous peoples in Brazil, the water is a live deity, a sacred being which must be respected and honored.
This project was awarded the AVIAMA Mobility Grant 2023, which allowed the artist to travel to Toronto (Canada), in March 2024 and Okinawa (Japan) in September 2024, where she got her AIDA 1 apnea certificate to continue this project in process.
